Unemployment? Count Me In!!!

So I hear the unemployment numbers are looking good. Only lost about 400K more jobs. Only at 9.4% unemployment. Things are looking better. I heard it from CNBC, I read it on the Internet, and Mr. Obama even said it.

Well, as far as the unemployment number goes, count me in. I was just notified this weekend that our company is going to do a re-organization and unfortunately, as a senior level person, I am the odd man out due to seniority in the company. Yep, the unemployment bug got me. Bitter? Maybe. Surprised? Not really.

You see, Mr. Obama has virtually put a halt to our business. With his threats of health care insurance reform and nationalizing health care and health care insurance, our business fell off the face of the earth. Thank you Mr. Obama for this wonderful job creation stimulus package. I feel so lucky to have you as our president, creating jobs. I guess it doesn't apply to everyone, including the 15 million unemployed and underemployed. But for the 400K jobs he is going to create, I am sure they are right around the corner.

Well, I guess it gives me more time to write blogs. I will keep you all posted on my progress and how long the lines are once severance is over. In the mean time, keep believing what you want to believe about green shoots and a new bull market. For this bear, it is back to pounding the concrete in search of the next great adventure.

  1. Holy crap! I'm sorry to hear about your job loss. That's tough, man. I hope you're able to find something soon. Good luck with everything.

Thanks for all your work on the blog. I try to check in daily.

Any thoughts on the dollar/treasuries? I'm thinking about shorting TBT now or buying TLT.

  3. Beamer Dog,

I'm really sorry you got laid off. I hope you find a new job soon.

(My brother got laid off, but then got a new job. Then my sister-in-law got laid off too. And one of my favorite neighbors got laid off recently. This job-loss plague is spreading widely.)

Once again, I wish you the best.

  5. What looks like a negative now can be a positive later on. You have a gift of insight into markets and ability to comment on them. You can turn your hobby into a money. You can collect severance simultaneously with unemployment, which is all done by phone. Might as well take advantage of both while extended benefits are available. Look at your situation as an opportunity!

  8. I've been here before due to a consolidation of office locations. It's not fun, but time for a change. I may finally do my own thing which I have dabbled into many times. Now may be that time.

Watch the VIX at the close today. Can it break 30.60 for a close?

  9. Sorry to hear that. I am still unemployed although coming from a different place as an out of work recent graduate (1 year and counting).

Have you thought about consulting gigs?

  10. Sorry to hear that. I was wondering why you don't show up at SKF board as much these days. I think you are totally capable of doing your own thing, as you put it. Just run as far as you can from the government's clutch.

  12. Sorry to hear about your job loss. Hope you find something bigger and better and find something that you enjoy doing.

I am a little surprised that you are just hammering Obama and his policies. Remember that this mess was created in Bush era and eight years of his baseless policies. His policies were instrumental in creating this housing bubble. Don't forget the hyped up war on Iraq....We are losing a lot of our people and money there. The budget was in surplus during Clinton era and since Bush took the office, we lost everything and more.
Republicans are the one didn't want to audit companies and they took full advantage of levering and bad audit practices.

I can go on and on....Obama inherited this mess and now trying to fix things. He had a choice between bad and worst and while I don’t agree with some of his policies, I do believe that he is the one that will fix the economy and bring us back to the glory days.

I will continue to read your blog…

  13. My only beef with Obama's policies is, he is trying to socialize and regulate too much and he is also giving false hope by propping up banks with false numbers and sending PPT out to talk about green shoots , etc. This causes retail investors to invest in a market with the lowest forward looking P/E in our lifetime, hoping that everything will return to "normal" in a year or two. All these people will lose more of their hard earned money.
